Your first hour: what to do while you wait

Do what is safe. Skip anything that puts you at risk.

  • Stop the source if you can. Shut off the main water valve for a pipe or supply line failure.
  • Turn off power to wet areas at the breaker if you can reach the panel without stepping in water. If you cannot, leave it and tell us.
  • Lift small items, rugs and electronics off wet floors. Skip heavy furniture.
  • Take photos and short video of the water and the damage before anything moves.
  • Open cabinet doors and lift furniture skirts to let air in. Do not run a household vacuum on standing water.

What our team does on site

  1. Find the source and the spread

Water travels. We check walls, floors and ceilings below and beside the wet area with moisture meters.

  2. Pull out the water

Pumps and extractors remove standing water. Fast removal keeps it out of the subfloor and framing.

  3. Set up drying

Air movers and dehumidifiers go in, and we mark what can dry in place and what has to come out.

  4. Check and repeat

We recheck moisture levels until the structure is dry, so mold has nothing to grow on.

Insurance and estimates

Your photos from the first hour help your claim. We add our own documentation and give you a detailed, itemized estimate with regular progress updates.

What our customers say

Have any questions?

Is the water safe to touch?

Clean supply water from a pipe or appliance is usually the lowest risk. Water from a sewer line, a toilet overflow or flooding outdoors is not. If you are not sure where it came from, stay out and call us.

Can I just use a wet vac and fans?

A wet vac can help with a small spill. It will not reach water that has soaked into the subfloor or inside the walls, and that is where the long term damage and mold start.

How long before mold can start?

Mold can begin to grow in a day or two in damp, warm conditions, and Georgia summers help it along. That is why drying the structure quickly matters.
